Style is about taking fashion and making it your own. I reinvented a holiday strapless dress by layering a white silk blouse over it and tying it on the side with a rhinestone bracelet. The look caught the attention of the designer, Marie Holman Roa at the Lord & Taylor event last week. It made my day when the designer of 424 Fifth told me that she loved the way I styled the look. Marie is so down to earth and fun to be around; you would never guess how much she has shaped our closets over the years.

Maria reinvented Banana Republic to the store it is today in 1990s. After that Marie Holman Rao developed Victoria’s Secret wash-and-wear line of undergarments and loungewear aimed at college-age girls, now a $3-billion brand known to us all…Pink! My college closet was filled with pieces from Banana Republic and some from Pink as well. She is a visionary and has brought that vision to the exclusive line for Lord & Taylor called 424 Fifth (the address of the Lord & Taylor’s flagship in Manhattan).

Here are some of my favorite looks from Lord & Taylor mostly consisting of 424 Fifth pieces.

  1. LOVE that dress! I remember being in my teens and walking by Banana Republic one day and actually liking their clothes when I never had before! So that was what happened!

Thanks for sharing, I’m going to have to check out 424 Fifth.

  2. Ummm Just wow! The experience with Marie Holman Roa crushing on your look is no surprise. It really is different and fab!! Inventive and surprising. Also would work great as a dinner to bar outfit (take the top off to go dancing!) LOVE.

  3. What a versatile look for holiday parties this year. I like that it can be used a couple of ways which makes it nice that not every party needs a new dress!
